The science mail servers can be connected to using the following settings:

  • Incoming Mail Server: imap.science.oregonstate.edu
  • Outgoing Mail Server:smtp.science.oregonstate.edu
  • SSL Port: 465 (outgoing) or 993 (incoming)

    3. Apple Mail uses a Virtual Junk folder by default.  If you would like you can tell Apple Mail to use a folder on your IMAP account.  To do so follow the rule below for Apple Mail.

Manual Setup Method

Follow directions below to set up your exchange account on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

  1. Make sure that your device is connected to either Wi-Fi or a 3/4G data connection.
  2. Tap Settings icon on your home screen
  3. Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  4. Tap on Add Account... under the Accounts heading
  5. Tap on Microsoft Exchange icon
  6. Fill in the account information fields. Example below is for COSINe customers:
    •  E-mail - Enter your exchange account e-mail address (@oregonstate.edu)
    •  Domain - leave blank
    •  Username - Enter your onid username @oregonstate.edu (i.e. username@oregonstate.edu)
    •  Password - Enter your onid password
    •  Description - Enter a description for the account (such as OSU email)

    NOTE: If you do not know the pertinent information above, please contact your Department Computer Administrator (DCA)

  7. Click Next
  8. Fill in exmail.oregonstate.edu for the server name
  9. Click Next
  10. Turn on the features you would like to sync with your phone (Mail, Contacts, and Calendars.)
  11. Click Save.
  12. You should now be able to access your Exchange mail from your phone. If you are not sure what your server settings are, please contact your Department Computer Administrator (DCA).

How do I Add directory.oregonstate.edu in Outlook

Outlook 2007:

  1. Open Outlook 
  2. Click on the Tools menu and choose Account Settings...
  3. Select the Address Books tab and click on New...
  4. Select Internet Directory Service (LDAP), then click next.
  5. Type directory.oregonstate.edu in the Server Name box...
  6. Click on the More Settings button, choose the Search tab.
  7.  Enter o=orst.edu in the Search base box next to Custom:.
  8. Click OK, click next and finish to end the setup, and restart Outlook.

To search for people, click on the Addresses button at the top of your Outlook Express window. *Make sure you have the proper address book selected when searching for contacts. The default address book can be changed, while inside the address book window, by navigating to Tools menu and selecting Options... and changing the dropdown menu beneath "Show this address list first".

    Creating Custom Filtering Rules

    1. Go to http://secure.science.oregonstate.edu
    2. Login using your science username and password. usermin
    3. Select the SPAM, Email Forwarding, Vacation Messages option.spamsnforwardingnvacation
    4. Check off the box "Enable advanced settings?"
    5. More option will then appear that will look like this: 
    6. You will then be prompted to setup a custom filter. A whitelist rule will stop certain messages from being moved to your junk mailbox, while the blacklist will automatically discard a message. In general, the blacklist should be avoided and instead use the "move to folder" option and specify the junk or spam folder.
    7. For instance, if you wanted all mail sent from dummy@aol.com to be moved to your junk folder, one could setup a rule like this:
    8. Click the "Add rule" button and the filter will be applied for all incoming messages. The filter will not work retroactively.
